When your clients upload a document in the workflow, crosstax reads the values the workflow asks for. Every single value comes with the page it appears on and a short reason; if either is missing, crosstax discards the value.
For each document slot, the workflow defines which values are read; for the wage-tax certificate, for example, employer, gross salary and wage tax.
Upload
As a PDF or a photo, including from an iPhone. crosstax converts photos into a PDF and then reads them.
Read with page and reason
For every value, the AI gives the page, a short reason in the language of the person uploading and how confident it is.
Enter or propose
crosstax enters very confident values and marks them. Less confident ones appear as a proposal to apply; the questionnaire does not show very uncertain ones at all. crosstax does not overwrite an answer that is already there; in lists such as “Employers & salary”, each document adds a row of its own.
Examples
What it looks like in the product
Example view
Wage-tax certificate
In the workflow for the German income tax return, every uploaded wage-tax certificate becomes a row under “Employers & salary”.
Employers & salary – please review
Automatically taken from your document
Please check; you can change the value at any time.

Your firm decides who reviews the row: your clients in the questionnaire, or your firm in the case's “Captured values” area.

Mortgage statement
In the workflow for the Swiss tax return, your clients type in the debt and the interest or upload the statement. From the statement, crosstax proposes the values in the question while it is still empty; your firm also sees them in the “Captured values” area.
Captured values
Read automatically from the uploaded documents.

The colour shows how confident the AI rates itself: green stands for “High confidence”, amber for “Please verify”, red for “Must check”. It is not a comparison with the document text.
Example view
Custody statement with positions
Besides the custodian bank and the tax value, crosstax reads the securities positions row by row. If your clients do the review, they see the positions as a list in the questionnaire and correct what is wrong.

crosstax reads the custody account's tax value as it appears on the statement, and the positions next to it row by row.
Traceable, not taken over blindly
No page, no value
If a value lacks the page or the reason, crosstax discards it before it appears anywhere. crosstax also discards a table row without a page.
Existing answers stay
crosstax does not overwrite an answer that is already there; in lists such as “Employers & salary”, each document adds a row of its own. Every entered value remains editable.
Your firm decides who reviews
For the whole firm or per workflow: your clients in the questionnaire, or your firm in the “Captured values” area.
Prior-year values only as proposals
For documents whose values are only a reference, such as last year's tax return, a workflow provides proposals only. There, crosstax enters nothing by itself.
PDF, PNG and JPEG, as well as photos from an iPhone (HEIC); crosstax first converts photos into a PDF. crosstax accepts Word and Excel files, but the AI does not read them.
Can a value that was read be changed?+
Yes. Every entered value remains editable, and your own entry takes its place.
Where does my firm see the values read?+
On the case page: under “Files” per document with its page, and under “Intake & Answers” per document slot, added up across several documents.
