Protecting your data

In detail

Who chooses the storage location, what applies to existing files and where the backup is kept.

Application and database

in the EU (Frankfurt and Ireland)

crosstax's server functions run in Frankfurt. Answers, captured details, the text of your documents and user accounts are stored in the database in Ireland.

Google Cloud Vertex AI (EU)

This is where the AI processes your documents and details, for example to read values from uploads.

Google does not use your data for training (contractually agreed).

File storage locations

Your choice of Switzerland, Germany, Austria

Default for new firms, can be changed: Zurich (Switzerland) for firms based in Switzerland, Frankfurt (Germany) for firms based in Germany or in any other country, and Vienna (Austria) for firms based in Austria

Otherwise, for firms without a choice, and until a move: Ireland (EU)

Owners or admins of your firm choose the location while the firm is still empty (without files or cases); after that it changes only through a move carried out by crosstax; new files are stored at the location that applies to the firm: documents, generated PDFs, templates, logo and banner. They are also processed elsewhere; the privacy notice has the details.

Backup of the files and the database

Geneva for Zurich, Munich for Frankfurt, and a second data centre in Vienna

For each of these storage locations, a backup of the files is set up in the same country. For the files in the previous storage and for the database, a backup is set up in Germany (Munich).
